Start my rolloverFinding your Charles Schwab account number is a straightforward process, but can take some navigation through their website. Whether you’re looking to roll over a 401(k), regain your online access, or you just want to keep track of your brokerage account details, we’ll guide you through a few different methods in detail below. Ensuring you have account access to your brokerage account from any financial institution is important to help you stay on top of your investment account performance and can help you feel a sense of financial security.
First, you’ll want to log in to your Charles Schwab account. To do so, navigate to the Schwab account login page. Enter your user ID and password to finish the log in process. If you’re having trouble accessing as the account holder, you can trigger an account reset and answer a few security questions to regain access. These are likely security questions you selected when you first set up your account and are intended to protect the confidentiality of your information. Answering these incorrectly may result in a suspicious account activity flag, and you may have to wait to reset your account.
In the “Accounts” section on your dashboard after you’ve logged in, you should see a list of your accounts. Click on the account name you’re looking to get your account number for.
Your 8-digit account number will be visible in the blue box at the top of your screen.
Don’t see your account number? If you just opened your account, it may take up to 24 hours for your account number to appear. Check your email for any further instructions for account access from your provider. Your financial institution should email you once the account set-up is complete but we recommend checking back after a few minutes.
If you’re still having trouble accessing your account number, you can try contacting customer service via phone to ask them for help. Be prepared to be asked to verify your identity with some personal information before calling in order to access your account details. Schwab’s telephone number for account access support and password reset is 800-780-2755.
You can’t currently view your full 8-digit account number through the Charles Schwab mobile app.
Once you’ve regained access to your account and have found your account number, there are a few options on what you can do with your Charles Schwab 401(k) account. If you’re happy with your account as-is, you’re more than able to leave your retirement savings at Schwab. You can also roll over your 401(k) into an IRA or move it to your new employer if your plan allows. Finally, withdrawing your retirement funds is also an option, but generally not recommended since you may be subject to early withdrawal penalties and taxes. Most people tend to roll over their old 401(k) accounts into an IRA to access more investment options and benefit from lower investment expenses and fees.
